| Abstract: |
| Dien Bien, Son La and Yen Bai provinces are located in the mountainous Northwestern part of Vietnam. These total land area is covers about 3 million ha and has a population of about 2.4 million. The research on the value chain found that, forest and tree product's distribution was controlled by a network of collectors and traders. Normally, harvested products flow from farmers to collectors, then to traders. However, in some cases, traders bypass the collectors and buy directly from farmers, in order to increase their profit margin. Following the distribution channel, traders sell to buyers in other provinces, to small-scale processors for further processing. Their products are distributed through a network of sales agents with outlets in provinces and Hanoi market. |
