This report provides an overview of the clusters’ characteristics in each country to improve understanding of the landscape conditions that have an impact on smallholders’ vulnerability. Prior to discussion at the cluster level, brief overviews of the project sites in Indonesia, Viet Nam and the Philippines are presented. During its first year, Smart Tree-Invest has produced information on general socio economic conditions, drivers of land-use changes, hydrological conditions, biodiversity use, farmers’ selection criteria and preferences for trees and annual crops, a shocks exposures-responses-impact assessment, and a strengths-weaknesses-opportunities threats analysis of the five types of livelihood capital. Through a detailed understanding of the environmental, social and economic conditions that shape the resilience of the local communities in the clusters, we will develop recommendations to reduce smallholders’ vulnerability and, in parallel, improve their livelihoods and environmental quality. |
