Based on the village typology identified for this study, the villages in Bengkayang District were classified into two types, i.e. villages that are extremely vulnerable to climate change (79 villages), and those that are moderately vulnerable (34 villages). Villages categorized as extremely vulnerable (Type 1) are located very close to oil palm companies, smallholders’ oil palm plantations, oil palm mills, mines, and main roads; have large areas covered with shrubs, a large human population, a small forest area per village; located far from deforestation areas, and have a low deforestation rate. While the moderately vulnerable villages (Type 3) are located very close to the river, have a large percentage of oil palm plantation per village, located quite far from oil palm mills and mining companies, have quite a large area of shrubs, and medium population density. |
